Kasturi Cotton Bharat has been the new face of Indian Cotton over the past one year. As readers would be aware, it is a joint initiative of the Textile Ministry, Government of India, The Cotton Corporation of India, Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL), and various textile trade bodies. Its mission is to elevate Indian cotton globally among the world’s best cotton. Cotton bearing the Kasturi mark reflect superior cotton that is traceable and sustainable. On 15th February 2025, TEXPROCIL entered into a significant partnership with Alok Industries Limited, marking the procurement of 50,000 bales of premium Kasturi Cotton. This strategic MoU will enable Alok Industries to produce high-quality textile products made from 100% Kasturi Cotton, enhancing India’s presence in the global textile market. The partnership also aligns with the broader mission of promoting sustainability in cotton production, offering complete traceability through an innovative blockchain platform, which will strengthen the transparency of the cotton value chain.
The MoU was signed by Shri Sunil Patwari of TEXPROCIL and Shri Biji Chacko of Alok Industries, was witnessed by Shri Purnesh Gururani, Director (Cotton), Ministry of Textiles, Mr. Eric Trachtenberg, Secretary General, ICAC and representatives of IKEA, BCI and other brands. This collaboration not only aims to reinforce the superior quality of Indian cotton but also highlights the growing demand for sustainable and traceable cotton in international markets.
In addition to the partnership with Alok Industries, TEXPROCIL also signed an MoU with Indo Count Industries Ltd for the procurement of 5,000 bales of Kasturi Cotton to manufacture premium home textile products. Shri Sunil Patwari, Sub Committee Chairman, (Project Implementation – Kasturi Cotton) and Shri Malay Mahanti, Sr. Vice President, Indo Count Industries Ltd signed the MoU.
With these strategic collaborations, Kasturi Cotton is set to become one among the leading players in the global textile industry, fostering both economic growth and sustainable cotton production.
